Commercial Roofing Systems: All About Spray Polyurethane Foam Roofing

March 7, 2019

Spray Polyurethane Foam, more commonly known as SPF, is an environment-friendly roofing system for commercial, industrial, and manufacturing establishments. SPF is a liquid material that eventually expands into a foam after being sprayed. It creates a solid layer of foam that coats an existing roof system.

SPF roofing is not a popular type of commercial roofing material. It has only been recognized a couple of years back. However, the technology for it has been around since the 1960s, which was available for industrial, commercial, and even residential roofing systems.

In general, the SPF roofing system can be used in various types of climate. It is also extremely durable. If properly installed and maintained, it can last for over half a century. It’s also relatively cost-efficient, with a price range of $4 to $7 per square foot, depending on the thickness of the SPF needed and the structure of the building.

Advantages of SPF Roofing System

Easy Installation

SPF roofs are easily installed without interfering with daily tasks within the establishment. This roofing system is installed by spraying a liquid on the existing roof and giving it time to expand into foam. This method allows the SPF to adjust and conform to various roof shapes and types.

Energy Efficient

SPF roofing is characterized by thermal, air, and moisture barriers, allowing them to provide better insulation for the building. The foam also regulates the building’s temperature by keeping out the heat in the summer and keeping it in during winter, considerably lowering energy costs for establishments owners.

Easy Maintenance

A properly maintained SPF roof can last over 50 years. And once installed, it only requires minimal upkeep. This involves biannual inspection to ensure that the silicon coating is kept in good condition. This is usually done during the spring and fall.
