Every type of roof will have their own unique methods of maintenance. Asphalt roofs are no different as they need specific care in order to last long. We’ve made a list of the things you can do to properly maintain asphalt roofs to help you keep your asphalt roof in good condition for as long as possible.
One of the most important parts of an asphalt roof are the granules that cover the tiles. These granules are made of crushed stone and rock that create a protective layer for your roof. As more of these granules are lost, the weaker your roof gets. Finding a large amount of it in your gutters could mean that there is a problem. However, you shouldn’t be alarmed if you find a few granules in your gutters. Granule loss is part of an asphalt roof’s regular wear and tear.
A big problem that many roofs will have to deal with are missing sections. However, asphalt roofs will suffer from it more as losing a piece of your roof often means that you now have a hole the size of the lost tile or shingle. The worst part is that the hole weakens shingles and tiles around it. This makes it easier for your roof to lose more shingles or tiles. So you have to make sure that you either re-secure these loose shingles or tiles and patch up any holes that you find.
Debris on your roof can create a multitude of problems that you’re eventually going to have to deal with. The debris that you’re going to find quite often are leaves, and branches from nearby plants. You have to make sure that you check on your roof often and remove debris from it so that it doesn’t damage your roof or your gutters over time.
A clear sign that your asphalt roof is in trouble is that you might be seeing warping or disfiguration on your asphalt shingles. Warping and disfiguration are a sign that the tiles or shingles used in your roof is nearing the end of it’s lifespan. You can either replace these damaged sections with new ones, or have a professional roofing contractor like Diversified Roofing do a full roof replacement.
Asphalt roof maintenance should always be at the top of your priority list to keep you, and your home safe from the weather. And with our tips, you should be able to keep your asphalt roof functional for much longer!
